ADULT TAE KWON DO
Stronger Than Yesterday.
Strength. Confidence. Focus. Community.
Training that meets you where you are.
Adult Tae Kwon Do at Master Shim's is about more than learning how to kick and punch. It's an opportunity to challenge yourself, become stronger, sharpen your focus, learn martial arts skills, and work toward goals that belong entirely to you.
You don't have to get in shape first.
You don't have to be flexible.
And you definitely don't have to know what you're doing.
That's what class is for.
THINKING ABOUT STARTING?
There's No “Martial Arts Type.”
Adults come to Tae Kwon Do with different backgrounds, different goals, different fitness levels, and different reasons for beginning. Some are looking for a challenge. Some want a better way to stay active. Some want more confidence. Others simply want to do something that is theirs.
There is no required starting point.
“I'm Too Old.”
Adult training is about progress at your stage of life, not comparing yourself to someone younger. The goal is to improve from where you are today.
“I'm Not in Shape.”
You don't have to reach a certain fitness level before beginning. Training itself can help build strength, endurance, balance, and coordination over time.
“I'm Not Flexible.”
Flexibility is something that can develop through consistent movement and practice. You are not expected to arrive already able to move like an experienced martial artist.
“I've Never Done Anything Like This.”
Beginners are beginners. Every experienced student once had a first class, learned their first stance, and had to figure out where to put their hands and feet.
“I'm Not Athletic.”
Tae Kwon Do is learned through instruction, repetition, and practice. Athletic ability is not a prerequisite for walking through the door.
You don't need to look like a martial artist to become one.
START WHERE YOU ARE
Your First Goal Isn't a Black Belt.
It's showing up.

The first classes are about learning the basics: how to stand, how to move, how to listen for instruction, and how to become comfortable doing something new.
As those basics become more familiar, new challenges begin to feel possible. A technique improves. Endurance increases. Confidence grows. The belt changes.
Progress doesn't begin with being good at Tae Kwon Do.
It begins with being willing to learn.
NOT JUST A WORKOUT
Fitness With a Purpose.
Adult Tae Kwon Do gives you a reason to move. Instead of repeating the same routine just to finish a workout, every class asks you to learn, practice, improve, and apply something new.

Strength & Endurance
Kicking, striking, footwork, stance work, and repeated combinations challenge the body while helping students build stamina over time.
Balance & Mobility
Tae Kwon Do asks the body to move in multiple directions, shift weight, stabilize, turn, and coordinate movements that many everyday routines simply do not challenge.
Coordination
Learning to connect footwork, hands, timing, and technique creates a mental and physical challenge that becomes more natural with practice.
A Goal Beyond Calories
Progress is not measured only by how hard you worked that day. Students also have techniques to improve, skills to learn, and goals to work toward.
You're not just exercising.
You're learning something.
TRAIN THE MIND TOO
Sometimes the Best Part of Class Is Leaving Everything Else Outside.
Work. Responsibilities. Phones. Schedules. Noise. Adult life asks for attention in a hundred directions at once.
Tae Kwon Do asks you to be present. Watch. Listen. Move. React. Try again.

An Hour That Requires Your Attention
Learning combinations, responding to instruction, working with partners, and practicing technique gives your mind something specific to focus on.
For many adults, that focused time can feel very different from another hour spent thinking about work, errands, or the next thing on the list.
For a little while, the next thing on the list can wait.
EVERY JOURNEY LOOKS DIFFERENT
Train the Body You Have Today.
Not every student moves the same way, learns at the same pace, or begins with the same physical abilities. That does not mean the opportunity to train has to look the same for everyone.

Training Can Be Personal
Instructors can help students work within their current abilities while still encouraging progress, effort, and personal growth.
For some students, that may mean modifying a movement, adjusting the pace, or focusing on a different version of a technique.
The goal is not for every student to look exactly the same. The goal is for each student to keep learning, keep participating, and keep moving forward.
Progress is personal.
Effort matters. Growth matters.
TRAIN TOGETHER
Individual Goals. Shared Experience.
Tae Kwon Do is an individual journey, but you do not have to make it alone.
Adult students train alongside people with different backgrounds, different belt levels, and different reasons for being there. Partners help each other practice. Instructors coach. Students encourage one another through the difficult parts.
Competition Is Optional. Progress Isn't.
You can challenge yourself without having to compete against the person standing next to you. Everyone has their own starting point, their own pace, and their own goals.
One class. One technique. One step forward.
KEEP MOVING FORWARD
Where Can This Lead?
Adult Tae Kwon Do gives you something many workouts do not: a clear path for continued growth.
As your skills improve, new techniques, new challenges, and new belt levels give you something meaningful to work toward.
Short-Term Goals
Learn a new technique. Improve a kick. Build stamina. Remember a combination. Attend consistently. Small goals create momentum.
Belt Progression
Belt levels help mark progress and give students a visible reminder that consistent effort adds up over time.
Black Belt
For students who choose to continue, Black Belt can become a long-term goal. It is not something you need to think about on day one. It becomes meaningful because of all the days that come before it.
Your next belt starts with your next class.
